Overall the economy compared to unit upkeep is a bit of a mess, it's possible to field way too many armies which makes the game a micromanage disaster but that ain't what I'm supposed to talk about. If I can fill armies with stacks of mythical creatures then they ain't mythical. It's way to easy to summon and upkeep them by the way. I can summon massive mythical creatures, and watch them get absolutely demolished. I can reach the end game and literally turn my units into demons in this game, but they won't be that much better.

Yeah, sure there are some really good spells and units that you can research but it's nothing compared to what I can do in other 4x games. It's just such an uninteresting unmeaningful bonus.Īlmost all of the game is like this. By the time I can clear that ancient wonder I am making more than 500 of each of those easily. Even if you have lots of trees what will the yield be? with 5 different foresters you'll get 10 knowledge 10 mana. Father Oak tree, a golden ancient wonder, you need to mass a 1k army, clear it, annex it and you need to be lucky enough to have the thing in the first place for you to annex, but also lucky enough to be near a city with lots of trees. They also do give bonuses to a specific district but it's often an incredibly small bonus.

Most aren't percentage based or synergy based.Ī great example are the wonders, they give small flat bonuses. However not once in three playthroughs did I ever go "oh wow that bonus is great". The entire game, everything from customizing your race, to your society, units down to building your city and researching tomes, is filled with small decisions. The problem is that I don't think they are meaningful. "Sure there are decisions that need to be made. I am a console pleb so I have little 4X experience, however I'm curious to hear your thoughts? I also want to preface this by saying I LOVE the game, it's the first I've bought full price in 5+ years!
